Yorkshire Terrier puppies
Confident, devoted and endlessly attached to their families, Yorkies are one of the most requested small breeds Precious Pups places. Their long, silky coat is a genuine daily grooming commitment, and one worth going into with clear eyes.

What draws families to the Yorkie
Three things families mention most when they ask about this breed.
Small enough for compact living, with modest exercise needs met by daily walks.
A good option for households sensitive to loose hair around the home.
Devoted companions that form deep bonds with their families quickly.

Is a Yorkie right for your household?
Yorkshire Terriers are among the most requested small breeds we place, and for good reason: many are confident, funny and entirely devoted to their households. Adults commonly weigh four to seven pounds, which makes them genuinely delicate, and most carry themselves with a self-assurance that belies it.
Exercise needs are modest - daily walks and indoor play usually cover an adult comfortably. The signature long, silky coat is low-shedding, which suits households sensitive to loose hair, but it's a daily commitment rather than a weekly one. Many Yorkies are alert and quick to announce a visitor, and most would rather be in the room with you than anywhere else.
Temperament & fit
Yorkies bond tightly with their people and can be wary of strangers at first. They do best in calm, attentive households and aren't the easiest fit for very young children who may be too rough for such a small dog. They thrive on companionship and don't love being left alone for long stretches.
Grooming & care
The signature long coat needs brushing most days to prevent matting, plus a trim every six to eight weeks if kept long, or a low-maintenance puppy cut. Their small size means dental care matters more than average. Daily brushing helps prevent the early tooth problems common to toy breeds.
What to expect once your puppy is home
Coat care sets the tone of the early weeks. Handling the coat, feet and ears daily while your puppy is young turns grooming into a routine rather than a battle, and many families settle on a shorter puppy cut that's far easier to maintain in this climate. Keep play gentle and discourage jumping from furniture, since a fall can injure a dog this small.
House training usually goes well on a frequent, predictable schedule. Dental care deserves early attention, as it does in most toy breeds. Because Yorkies attach quickly, teaching your puppy that short, unremarkable stretches alone are ordinary is easier now than later. Health questions belong with your own veterinarian.

Yorkie questions families ask
Still weighing breeds? Our guide to choosing a small breed for your family works through the questions that decide it. More general answers are on the FAQ page.

Often with older children who have learned to handle a small dog gently. With toddlers the issue is physical rather than temperamental: an adult Yorkie may weigh five pounds, and ordinary rough play can cause real injury.
Brushing most days for a coat kept long, plus a trim every six to eight weeks. Many families choose a shorter puppy cut, which cuts the daily work down considerably and is more comfortable through a Panhandle summer.
Moderately. Daily walks and indoor play generally cover an adult. They don't need a yard or long distances, which is part of why they suit apartments so well.
Typically four to seven pounds. That makes them one of the smallest breeds we place, and worth planning your household around.
Many are alert and will announce arrivals at the door. Early, consistent guidance usually keeps it manageable, though it is a fair thing to weigh if you live in close quarters.
