Yorkipoo puppies

A Yorkshire Terrier crossed with a Toy Poodle, the Yorkipoo is typically bright, playful and quick to learn. The coat is usually wavy to curly and low-shedding, and the mind behind it tends to want something to do. Individual puppies vary, as they do in any cross.

Why families consider this breed

What draws families to the Yorkipoo

Three things families mention most when they ask about this breed.

Quick to learn

Many take to house rules and simple cues readily, which suits families who want to train.

Low-shedding coat

The wave or curl holds loose hair rather than dropping it around the home.

Playful company

Typically interactive and sociable, often more forward with visitors than other toy breeds.

Household fit

Is a Yorkipoo right for your household?

Yorkipoos are usually the most quietly clever dogs on this list. Many pick up house rules and simple cues faster than their size suggests, which is a pleasure when you have time to work with them and a nuisance when you don't - an under-occupied Yorkipoo often invents its own entertainment.

Energy tends to run a little higher than in the Maltese or Shih Tzu, though it's still small-dog energy: bursts of play rather than endurance. The coat is commonly wavy or loosely curled, low-shedding, and needs both brushing and periodic clipping. Adults usually weigh between four and twelve pounds, and because the Poodle side can contribute either a very small or a slightly larger frame, adult size is harder to predict than in a fixed breed.

Household type Often suits families, couples and older owners who want an interactive dog rather than a lap companion. Households that enjoy training tend to get the most out of the breed.
Children and other pets Many are good with school-age children who join in play sensibly. Their sociability usually makes introductions to other dogs straightforward when handled calmly.
Space and exercise Fine in an apartment provided the mental side is covered. A walk plus a short training or puzzle session most days generally works better than a long walk alone.
Time at home They cope with ordinary working patterns better than some small breeds, though a bored Yorkipoo left alone for very long stretches can become noisy or destructive.

Temperament & fit

Many Yorkipoos are sociable, curious and openly affectionate, often more forward with new people than a Yorkie would be. They tend to respond well to training and enjoy having something to do. Some inherit a terrier tendency to be vocal, which is usually manageable if addressed while the puppy is young.

Grooming & care

The curl holds loose hair rather than dropping it, so brushing two or three times a week keeps mats from forming, and a clip every six to eight weeks keeps the coat workable. Ears benefit from regular checking, as coat can grow around the canal. Dental care matters, as it does with most toy crosses.

The first few weeks

What to expect once your puppy is home

Because Yorkipoos learn quickly, the first weeks set patterns that tend to stick - for better or worse. Short, frequent training sessions work well, and most puppies enjoy them. Build in something to occupy the mind: scatter-feeding, a puzzle toy, or five minutes practicing a cue is often more settling than extra walking.

Coat care needs establishing early; a puppy handled gently around the feet, face and ears is far easier to groom at two years old. Some are vocal, and quiet is easier to teach now than to untrain later. Questions about health, feeding or development belong with your own veterinarian.

How rehoming works

Rehoming a Yorkipoo, step by step

Never rushed. Most families spend a few weeks between the first conversation and welcoming a puppy home, and that is the pace we plan for.

01

Ask about the Yorkipoo

Tell us the breed you have in mind, or describe what you are looking for. There is no cost to a conversation.

02

Discuss household fit

Children, other pets, the hours the house is empty, and the grooming you can realistically keep up with.

03

Review availability

If a suitable puppy is ready we say so. If not, the free rehoming waitlist holds your place at no cost.

04

Meet the puppy

Every family meets their puppy at the PCB Market stall before anything is decided.

05

Welcome your puppy home

A placement fee applies once a specific puppy is confirmed for your family, and we stay reachable after.

The full process is set out step by step, and the placement policy covers fees and paperwork.

Family discussing puppy rehoming and care

Frequently, yes. Many are sociable and playful enough to enjoy children who handle them sensibly. As with any dog under about twelve pounds, very young children need supervision simply because accidents happen easily.

Brushing two or three times a week, plus a clip roughly every six to eight weeks. The curl means loose hair stays in the coat, so skipping the brushing tends to produce mats rather than shedding.

More active than most breeds we place, but in short bursts. A daily walk covers the body; the mind usually needs a little more - training, a puzzle feeder or a game generally settles them well.

Commonly four to twelve pounds. That's a wide range, and it reflects the cross: the Toy Poodle side can contribute a smaller or a slightly larger adult frame.

Many are, comparatively. They tend to pick things up quickly and enjoy the attention. The flip side is that they also learn habits you did not intend, so consistency across the household matters.

Yes, and we'd encourage it. Families meet puppies in person at the PCB Market stall in Panama City Beach on weekends. Contact us first so we can talk about what may be present.
